Join us this Wednesday, February 18th from 2:30–4:30pm for a hands-on workshop on the basics of live staking!
Live staking is a simple and powerful bioengineering technique that uses dormant cuttings of woody plants to stabilize soil, reduce erosion, and restore ecological function along waterways. During this workday, we’ll be installing live stakes around the perimeter of our trout pond to strengthen the banks before spring rains arrive.
Participants will learn:
What live staking is and why it works
How to select appropriate species
Proper cutting, handling, and installation techniques
How live stakes support long-term bank stability and habitat health
These plantings will help prevent bank erosion while also providing future shade, insect habitat, and forage for the trout we’ll be adding this spring.
Come ready to learn, get your hands in the soil, and contribute to the health of our pond ecosystem. No prior experience necessary—just dress for the weather and bring gloves if you have them!
